Kundalini Yoga , though lesser known and practiced, is actually the oldest form of yoga, protected fiercely by its early practitioners because of the powerful energy it is believed to unleash in the physical and astral bodies. Kundalini is understood to be the energy that lies coiled like a serpent at the base of the spine…and through the practice of Kundalini yoga we can unleash this abundant energy and allow it to traverse our seven chakras ( energy vortexes) that lie along our spinal column. As the energy travels to the top of the column, we activate the secretion of the pineal gland. The pineal gland, in yoga, is known to vibrate and control the nucleus projections of every cell of the body. We are able to subtly manipulate the chemical secretions of the brain, thus effecting certain positive changes to occur in the body allowing us to live our life to its fullest potential.
Kundalini Yoga is practiced with lots of movement and coordinated breath work, its emphasis not necessarily on asana alignment, but rather on moving through a certain set of ‘kriyas’ or postures on the order they are presented. the sum of the whole, in the matter of Kundalini yoga, is always greater than its individual parts.
