Dry Brushing for Beautiful Healthy Skin
Hi everyone! Today I’m going to talk about an Ayurvedic practice I incorporate into my regular shower routine: dry brushing. It takes 5 minutes and will leave you feeling ready to conquer the day. The purpose of dry brushing is to stimulate and refresh the largest organ in our body: the skin! The benefits of this practice are much more than just smooth skin, though… here are some of the ways it can make you feel ready to go:
- Improved circulation
With improved circulation your body temperature will be better regulated so your toes won’t freeze as much at night and you won’t get cold when you get out of the shower.
- Activated Lymphatic System
Flushing the lymphatic system will allow your body to detoxify and build up a stronger immune system.
- Exfoliation and cleansing
It will keep your skin soft and fresh by getting rid of dead skin, sure, but it will also eliminate toxins left from any lotions or soap products you use.
With the improved circulation and just the feeling of the brush itself you will feel refreshed and awake before you even jump in your morning shower.
This Ayurvedic practice involves taking a bristle brush, generally with a wooden handle, and brushing the skin in circular strokes towards the heart for about 5 minutes before showering. Start with the soles of the feet and move up the legs, up the arms, then to your back and your belly. Use long sweeping motions and gentle pressure, you don’t want to irritate the skin.
